On the 24th, I went to Kechara House to participate in the long life birthday puja. Around 400 people turned up and I gave a Dharma talk. I also mentioned that I would like land to start an animal shelter, and I explained where and why. I have started the momentum going to have a shelter.

I am very much looking into an animal shelter as one of the departments of Kechara and also to educate the public that ANIMALS AREN’T JUST FOOD. I will be speaking more and more about the animal shelter. I will have school field trips to create awareness of KINDNESS TO ANIMALS from a young age. It bothers me tremendously to see animals abused, hurt, abandoned, killed or eaten. It tears my heart out. I need to do something and I will.

Not eating animal flesh to live is just a matter of finding other tastebud thrillers. DON’T EAT ANIMALS PLEASE. Not eating murdered animals is not difficult if you believe 100% in the law of cause and effect. Let your acceptance into Buddha’s law of Cause and Effect be the FOUNDATION of your spiritual journey. START by happily not eating animals.

However, the logic behind cause and effect doesn’t work for people who are not into it. Compassion, health and alternative eating are other good methods. We have to use many skilful methods to bring the message across according to their minds, dispositions and geography. SAVE ANIMALS!

Animal slaughter sacrifices are big in Nepal. READ THIS POST OF NEPAL’S ROYALTY AGAINST IT. Save the animals! Yes, my dear compatriots for animals, SAVING ANIMALS IS OUR DUTY as ‘evolved’ and ’self-aware’ societies.

While in Kathmandu this year, I came across a wonderful animal shelter called KAT (Kathmandu Animal Treatment centre). It was started by a Ms Jan Salter. I had the privilege to meet Ms Salter – she was down-to-earth, direct, very kind, sincere and she really came to Nepal to just help the animals. I was so moved by her. When we talked, we both controlled our tears. She literally got up one day and MADE UP HER MIND THAT SHE WAS GOING TO DO THIS!! I love that spontaneity and real commitment.

She is on this piece of rented land. She advertises in the local Kathmandu restaurants and backpackers donate or contribute time to help her. I saw her on the bulletin board of a Kathmandu pizza restaurant and that’s how I went to visit and to see it for myself. The place was real. The help they were giving is real. Ms Jan is real.

I collected some money and went major shopping. My friends and I bought many things they needed. We sponsored food for staff, food for dogs, detergents, mops, buckets, grains, shampoos, etc. We even sponsored kennels. Their signboard was too small to be noticed, so we sponsored a whole new signboard and oversaw it being erected. It was fun, fulfilling and I learned. I decided to continuously support the good cause of KAT and Ms Jan Salter. I request all of you to do the same. I also want to start a shelter here in Kuala Lumpur and I will. Please see what they are doing in KAT and trust me, they are real. If you’re in the area, go and visit. Meet Ms Salter. SHE IS A WONDERFUL, WARM AND GENUINE HUMAN BEING. My student ‘Paris’ did a few wonderful write ups…please click and see.

To read: please go to see one of the articles (Rescuing Dogs with KAT). You can find more in our website. Or if you prefer, you can learn about KAT on YouTube. Just click here

Do write them, visit, help and create awareness for KAT anyway you can. It’s better than just wishing all beings to be happy. Do something! Thanks everyone for reading about KAT.
